The annual UFM top 1000 songs (U选1000) voted by listeners was recently released. Counting down from 1000th to 1st, the 1000 songs were played on UFM over a period of 2 weeks. Last year I compiled the countdown using videos available on youtube, was struggling this year if I should do it again because of the time taken.

Nonetheless, here we go. 🙂

In replacement of the thrice-weekly lyrics translation, I will post the playlist of 50 songs each, starting from 1000th to 951st.

As always, the songs in the playlist is available for as long as the respective owners leave them on youtube. Enjoy while it is there.

She Came For My Concert – Jacky Cheung
ta lai ting wo de yan chang hui – zhang xue you

She came for my concert

On her first date of her first love, when she was seventeen

That boy queued the entire night for the tickets

With six months worth of savings, he bought a pair of tickets

She was mesmerized and heartbroken by my songs

A love of three years ended with a letter

She recalled the impatient horns on the train platform

My songs were playing in the background, accompanying the people weeping

Accompanying the people weeping

She came for my concert

At the age of twenty five, romance is a cheery thing

Her boyfriend sent someone else roses behind her back

She refused to take his calls, listening to music to sleep instead

She was mesmerized and heartbroken by my songs

Adults always appear like they are fine after a breakup

A night of singing and drinking at the karaoke

Singing my songs are crying together with the music video

Crying together

She was mesmerized and heartbroken by my songs

How precious is love at thirty three

The younger girl requested she back off

And allow the man to decide who he wants to be with

Who is it who had left

She was mesmerized and heartbroken by my songs

She tries her hardest to look less tired

Time listens to us singing our determination

Crying to tears among the applause

She came for my concert

After forty, women are beautiful when they still know to love music

She listen to our concert, silently

Chinese lyrics and translation.
Lyrics are not translated word for word. They are translated by meanings.

Fortune-telling – Jacky Cheung
suan ming – zhang xue you

We heard that through fortune telling

We’ll have an estimated idea of the happiness and sadness in this lifetime

Since nothing will be clearly explained

Why don’t we forecast our future

Should we or should we not

Is that a bad idea

We look to the sky and try to guess

Our career our romance, do we have an opportunity for them

Is there a future with him

Smooth sailing or a failure, it’s full of helplessness

Will he betray you

Will there be an accident

Sitting around the house in a daze

It’s probably a good idea to go tell your fortune

To be the best you will need constant competitions

To be blissful you need the arrangement from god

To see eternity it takes a lifetime of waiting

There is inevitably sorrow in relationships

Joyful days are always racing by

There’s no guarantee between success and failure

There’s no way to avoid either happiness or sadness

The sun will shine after the rain had passed

An one year old child will have less troubles than an adult

Don’t attempt to understand the future if you wish to have less worries

A centenarian will get over things easier than before

It does not take a fortuneteller to tell us that
